Olivia Wilde's making a movie described as "Bridesmaids at the North Pole"

Forcing us to contemplate, however briefly, the behavior of projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea in sub-zero temperatures, Olivia Wilde is apparently working on a movie described as “BridesmaidsDeadline reports that BooksmartDon’t Worry DarlingNaughty, about a woman who decides that the only way to win a custody battle against her “gaslighting trash-bag ex” is to track down Santa Claus and have him testify on her behalf.

The implications here are fairly staggering, obviously, with the idea of Santa’s global surveillance capabilities being introduced into a court of law raising about a million questions about how various governments might attempt to capture the ancient Yule wizard, and his nog-flavored panopticon, for their own grim purposes. Not that we necessarily expect Naughty to get into all of that, with the described vibe presumably being something a bit more raunchy, cut with a genuine dose of “Ah, how is this my life and why isn’t it better?” sentiment that pervaded 2011's Bridesmaids.

The script for the film comes from Jimmy Warden, who previously made a notable impression by penning Elizabeth Banks’ viral attention grabber Cocaine Bearvery big 2023, pretty much entirely on the strength and performance of Robbie’s Barbie.

As for Wilde, the description here suggests she’s getting back to the comedy roots of her debut picture, the well-received Booksmart, after Don’t Worry Darling got at least partially consumed by outside events that may or may not have actually happened in the run-up to its release. (Also: Fairly dismal critical responses.) And so she’s apparently tossing her hat into the “Christmas movie but people say ‘fuck’” ring that’s been dominated for so long by Bad Santa, a tried and tested spin on standard holiday fare.
