House Of The Dragon’s first season was a lot of setup: introducing the characters, their place in established Westerosi lore, and watching them turn their relationships into warring factions. But when Aemond’s dragon kills Rhaenyra’s son Luke (with Aemond’s culpability and intentions somewhat up for debate), the difference of opinion over who should sit on The Iron Throne turns far more personal and furious. The Greens and the Blacks are headed for full, all-out war.

The first, brief look at HotD’s second season picks up where we left off, opening on the image of a livid, heartbroken Rhaenyra. The clip is truly a teaser, with a quick look at most everyone in the main cast, and without a whole lot of information about the plot other than stuff you probably expected based on how the last season ended. “War will be fought, many will die, and the victor will ascend to the throne,” Alicent Hightower tells us, and it’s pretty hard to argue with that statement. “There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin, and no war so bloody as a war between dragons,” Princess Rhaenys intones. Hey, when you’re right, you’re right.
Outside of the teaser, HBO announced a whole slew of new cast additions; Clinton Liberty will appear as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne. The teaser also reaffirms the loose release date of summer 2024, which had previously been announced last month.
