Despite the premature death of Chuck Lorre’s Young Sheldon

But wait, wouldn’t a spinoff of Young Sheldon just be Old Sheldon, a.k.a. The Big Bang Theory? Wrong. Although this thing has got to come back around and eat its own tale at some point, right? Right?
We’re not getting Young Sheldon: The Teenage Years either, although he’ll likely make some appearances. According to Variety, the new spinoff will actually focus on Sheldon’s older brother Georgie (Montana Jordan) and his fiancé Mandy (Emily Osment) as they navigate the world of parenthood (Mandy gave birth during season 6) and age-gap relationships. Georgie was canonically only 17 when he met and began a relationship with the 29-year-old Mandy, but it’s okay because they both lied about their ages, apparently? It seems like Young Sheldon maybe should have been called Young Georgie instead... Just an idea.
Still, critics can rest assured that (spoiler alert!) Mandy and Georgie aren’t in it for the long haul. Per Variety, it’s revealed in the original Big Bang Theory canon that in present day Georgie is a successful tire salesman with two ex-wives, one of whom is presumably Mandy. Good for him.
Unlike Young Sheldon, the new, unnamed spinoff will go back to Big Bang Theory’s roots and film as a traditional, multi-camera sitcom. Chuck Lorre and Young Sheldon executive producers Steve Holland and Steven Molaro are all on board and are expected to write the first episode together. Osment and Jordan are also apparently in talks to reprise their original roles.
As announced this past November, Young Sheldon will end with a one-hour series finale after its seventh and final season, which kicks off February 15. They really do grow up so fast!
