Director David Leitch has bounced between several of the biggest action franchises on the planet over the past decade—and now, well, he’s bouncing again, with Deadline reporting that the Bullet TrainDeadpool 2Jurassic World franchise.

News that Leitch—a former stuntman who got his start as a director by co-helming John WickDeadline notes today that talks fell through with Universal due to “a difference in vision.” (And if you, like us, are kind of surprised to hear that Universal has any sort of vision for the wider Jurassic World franchise for a director to disagree with, then you probably sat through Jurassic World: Dominion, too.)
It’s a shame, in so far as Leitch, while fairly hit or miss in terms of his overall critical success rate, does have a sense of style that it’d be interesting to see applied to Jurassic World, which devolved pretty quickly into generic dinosaur action sludge over its last three installments. This new film, still un-subtitled, is reportedly supposed to be the launching point for “a new Jurassic era,” which is presumably studio speak for “We don’t want to watch Chris Pratt do hand gestures at velociraptors anymore.”
Leitch, meanwhile, will presumably keep busy, as he does: He’s currently gearing up for the release of his stuntman-focused action film The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling, and has a number of other prospective projects kicking around on his slate. His other past credits include The Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Atomic Blonde, and, of course, the music video for Celine Dion’s song “Ashes,” which is, as far as we know, the only Celine Dion music video to date in which Deadpool appears.
