For many of Hollywood’s best and brightest, yesterday was a day to strap on some heels (or a brooch, which seemed to be all the rage last night), get glammed up, and descend upon the Dolby Theater for the final red carpet of the season. Even many of us regular people threw elaborate Oscar parties, complete with themed snacks or bingo cards or at least a ballot or two. But neither of these options would have felt quite right for Gwyneth Paltrow, who took in the ceremonies in the most Goop-y way imaginable: in the midst of a home hair appointment with a head full of foils.

“[Robert Downey Jr.] takes it!” Paltrow wrote over a video posted to her Instagram story yesterday, in which she also tagged her watch buddy, stylist Kadi Lee. In the video, it was revealed that Paltrow witnessed her old Marvel co-star win his first-ever Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Oppenheimer via a livestream on her laptop, and didn’t even have it playing full-screen! (Internet sleuths immediately launched a full-scale investigation into her bookmarks, of course. They include Pinterest, LinkedIn (what does she need that for?), Expensify, RTR Diligent, “Save to NYT Cooking,” and, hilariously, Goop.)
“I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order,” Downey said in his acceptance speech. “Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me.” Maybe this hunger for a comeback will rub off on Paltrow, who clearly has a deep respect for her former on-screen Marvel husband, even if she can’t remember exactly how many movies they’ve starred in together. While she’s probably still too busy tracking the progress of her ski-crash-lawsuit-turned musical, using her Shakespeare In Love Oscar as a doorstop, or plotting how to “literally disappear,” Paltrow did say that if anyone could get her back into acting after her long hiatus, it would be Robert Downey Jr. Christopher Nolan, please don’t pick up the phone.
