As proof that maybe this whole rap beef thing has gone a little too far, a security guard was shot and seriously injured outside Drake’s Toronto mansion early Tuesday. Per CBC, police could not confirm if Drake was home at the time of the 2 a.m. shooting, but he and his team are reportedly cooperating with investigators.

The guard was found unconscious with a gunshot wound in the upper chest when officers arrived at Drake’s Bridle Path neighborhood compound Tuesday morning. He was taken to a nearby hospital “in serious condition,” where he underwent surgery, Toronto Police Inspector Paul Krawczyk told CBC News. However, while some reports noted that the attack was a drive-by shooting, authorities could not confirm. Krawczyk said a vehicle was involved, but he has neither a description of the car nor the suspects inside. The inspector said they collected video evidence of the incident and expect to find more in the investigation.

Though there is “very limited” information on the shooting and police could “not speak to a motive,” it’s difficult not to connect this with the ongoing spats in which Drake has recently become embroiled. The public diss-track-off between Kendrick Lamar and Drake engulfed popular culture this past week, making it the first time in what feels like a century that American internet users discussed a musician other than Taylor Swift. Lamar and Drake spent the weekend releasing track after track to humiliate each other and win public support for their side. The argument left off on May 5 with the release of Drake’s “The Heart Part 6,” in which the rapper argued he’s “way too famous” to be arrested for alleged sexual misconduct with teenage girls. Moreover, the cover image of one of Lamar’s anti-Drake diss tracks, “Not Like Us,” shows a satellite image of Drake’s home with ren indicator pins dotting the estate’s roof. Still, as of now, there is no publicly known motive for the shooting.
