Argylle squeaks by at a real stinker of a weekend box office

It’s still early, so there’s a small chance that millions of people will decide to skip the Super Bowl and go see Lisa FrankensteinLisa Frankenstein). The winner was, once again, Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, which made about $6.5 million and is hovering around $28 million after two weeks.

Second place went to Diablo Cody and Zelda Williams’ Lisa Frankenstein which debuted to $3.8 million, followed by the buzziest action film of the season, The Beekeeper, which added about $3.4 million to its five-week total of $54 million. Finishing up the top five are Wonka and last week’s bundle of The ChosenWonka has sailed past $200 million now, in its ninth week on the charts).

The bottom half of the top 10 are mostly familiar, with Migration, Anyone But You, and Mean Girls still hanging around, followed by American Fiction and Poor Things. Now that we think about it, you could’ve gone to see all of these movies on Friday or Saturday, so the Super Bowl shouldn’t have impacted all of this too much. Unless everyone tries to hold themselves to one fun thing every weekend, and they didn’t want to have too much fun before Big Game Sunday? Next year, go to the movies and watch the Super Bowl! It’s okay!

Deadline also says that the re-release of the first Dune is in there somewhere, but it only made about $1.6 million. The rest of this is courtesy of Box Office Mojo.
