Marvel Jesus arrives in the first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine

More than five years after the release of Deadpool 2 finally back with Deadpool 3—or at least a trailer for Deadpool 3. This long-awaited teaser comes after a significant number of teases, including the first announcement that Hugh Jackman would return as Wolverine back in 2022, a number of specific teases right after that, some curious casting announcements, a “no comment” on whether Taylor Swift will be in it, and finally Ryan Reynolds going to war against people who leaked some set photos.

Deadpool & Wolverine | Official Teaser | In Theaters July 26

But now we can stop stretching those little tidbits into news, because there’s actual Deadpool 3 news again thanks to this trailer, which debuted tonight during the Super Bowl. For starters, the movie is officially called Deadpool & Wolverine, though Mr. Claws only appears in this trailer in shadow and from behind. Also, apparently a big part of the movie will involve Deadpool working with the TVA (the time cops from Loki!) to... save the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Like, literally? He calls himself “Marvel Jesus” at one point, and he says he’s going to save the “cinematic universe,” so yeah. There’ll be plenty of time to explore every second of this thing for Easter eggs, but we’ve got an early favorite: Deadpool fighting around the ruins of the 20th Century Fox logo. That’s kinda funny!

Deadpool 3 was directed by Ryan Reynolds’ new best friend Shawn Levy, the director of Reynolds’ Free Guy and The Adam Project (he replaced the Mint Mobile fox as Reynolds’ best friend). Deadpool 3, the first Deadpool movie to count as MCU canon now that Disney owns the character (it’s also the first movie about an X-Men-adjacent character to be MCU canon), will be in theaters on July 26, 2024.
