Animated Star Wars strikes back with the trailer for Tales Of The Empire

Thought Disney was closing the book on the animated anthology Star Wars stories after Tales Of The Jedi? We find your lack of faith disturbing. Dave Filoni and his team of animators are back with adventures from the Unknown Regions of the Galaxy. Star Wars: Tales Of The Empire, a Sith-sided flip of the previous group of short Jedi adventures, has its coordinates set for Disney+ and will land next month.

The dark side of the Force is strong in this trailer, which is seemingly set entirely at night and on fire planets like Mustafar. Tales Of The Empire follows “two paths,” the trailer states, tracking young Morgan Elsbeth’s (voiced by Ahsoka’s Diana Lee Inosanto) quest for revenge after the massacre of the Nighsisters. Meanwhile, the series also follows ex-Jedi Barriss Offee (returning animated Star Wars vet Meredith Salenger) as she watches the rise of the Empire. Surrounding their adventures is a host of returning baddies, including fan-favorite Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson), Grand Inquisitor (Jason Issacs), Fourth Sister (Ryan Kihlstedt), and General Grievous (Matthew Wood). But the big get here is sci-fi’s most esteemed mouth breather, Darth Vader, marking his return to animated Star Wars land.

Tales Of The Empire is the second animated anthology series from Dave Filoni, the creator of Clone Wars, Rebels, and Bad Batch. Filoni runs Star Wars at Disney these days, so expect to see even more connections between these animated series and the new batch of Jedi-related adventures. Will there be a Tales Of The Hutts, The Gospel Of The Rancor Trainer, or The Book Of Yaddle? We’re just going to have to keep hoping and praying.

Tales Of The Empire drops on Disney+ on May 4th.
